Tcat's Musing on Tech

The Heavy Price of Being an Entrepreneur

Steve Jobs once referred to Apple’s marketing as a Reality Distortion Field. After his death, history refers to him as a genius and a revolutionary. Lost as a footnote is the day when he is fired from the company he cofounded.

The naked reality is being an entrepreneur is tough. One has to be flying in the face of conventional wisdom – attracting naysayers and ridicule. This is all beyond not only having a vision… It is finding the tenacity and logistical path of converting the idea to something tangible.

“Genius is one per cent inspiration, ninety-nine per cent perspiration.” – Thomas Edison

As a serial entrepreneur I know this to be true. What I cannot grasp is what it must be like to be a person like this and be a woman.

To get that answer you will have to ask my buddy Sabira Arefin.

For a long time she has worked on http://LocalBlox.com

I’m lucky. I’ve had the ringside seat being a spectator. Being a spectator I’ve been able to enjoy the beer and popcorn while Sabira has worked the La Brea tar pits. A concept that Silicon Valley has recently wrapped its brain around a concept J. Citizen is not aware of called SoloMo

It stands for: Local, Social and Mobile. The acronym is meant to embody the fusing of the three concepts. Using big data, Sabira and her team make it simple for anyone to find what they need locally with the additional benefit of peer reviews from social sites delivered via a mobile friendly way.

My buddy’s ambition delights me at least as much as the vision Bill Gates had with “Information at your fingertips”. In hindsight, at the time I was on the bandwagon for the revolution without realizing the unintended consequence.

Were all now drowning in content.Content creates engagement.

It is clear to me the listing and directory age is over. It is a victim of its own success. It needs to be trusted review. And as we are mostly citizens on the go, it must be mobile, presented in a simple meaningful way & must be relevant. Content sets the right context.

While applauding my buddies accomplishments that are already a reality, it’s clear she’s just getting started in her mind.

Being that the average person is not aware of a practical website such as http://localblox.com and its practical application in SoloMo platform leveraging big data & content mapped into the neighborhoods in a simple mobile friendly way to make it more relevant & add more context, all I can say is I hope her near future riches beyond the dreams of Avarice so she show certain men just what a woman can do.

Learn (Relatively) Painlessly and Quickly

As you can tell by both date and entry count I don’t do much on my own blog. Mostly that is because I’m pretty busy writing about specific topics for others. I reserve my rare entries here for something that is a personal breakthrough. After a lot of research, I have come full circle toContinue Reading

Modern Technology for Elderly Care

Today many people are increasingly being identified as members of the “sandwich generation.” These are individuals who are busy taking care of their own children as well as their aging parents. Windows 8 Countdown

Yes, I have said it elsewhere and it bears worth repeating. Get off of XP and go to Windows 8. There are security issues with XP. Cannot blame Redmond. If XP we’re a human, it would be eyeing the day it could get it drivers license. Win 8 runs on as little of a singleContinue Reading

So I just pulled Tcat.net This is a personal and quite experimental site. I’m really happy with how virtually any screen size, older phone to an HDTVContinue Reading
